New directors from Washington, D.C. and State College, Pa. bring decades of experience in real estate development, finance and construction to Old Dominion National Bank

TYSONS CORNER, Va., September 27, 2018—Old Dominion National Bank announced that Brian C. Athey, Esq. and Robert E. Poole, Jr. have joined its Board of Directors.

“Our newest directors have decades of experience in residential real estate development and finance, and exceptional records of business and civic leadership in the Washington and Central Pennsylvania regions,” Chairman Wesley Yuan said.  “Brian and Bob will be great additions to the bank’s board.”

Mr. Athey is founder and president of Washington-headquartered Congressional Capital, LLC, which provides real estate developers with acquisition and development loans for residential and commercial projects in the D.C metro area.  Mr. Athey is also the founder and president of Congressional Properties, Inc., which develops boutique residential projects in Washington.

Mr. Poole previously served on the boards of Susquehanna Bancshares, Inc. and Tower Bancorp, Inc., both multi-billion dollar asset regional financial institutions before being sold.  Based in State College, Pa., he is president and CEO of S&A Homes, a home building and land development company, Poole Anderson Construction, a construction management design/build and general contracting firm, and Allied Mechanical & Electrical, which provides residential and commercial HVAC services.

“We are very pleased to welcome Brian and Bob to our board and are confident they will help Old Dominion navigate its continued growth and success,” Old Dominion National Bank President and CEO Mark S. Merrill added. “2018 has proven to be a pivotal year for our company, as we continue to grow our market share and put capital, including the $38.7 million raised in our oversubscribed private offering of common equity earlier this year, to work for our customers and shareholders.”

Prior to founding Congressional Capital in 2011, Mr. Athey was a trial lawyer with a principal focus on real estate litigation and federal court litigation at Webster Book LLP in Alexandria, Va.  Previously, he was an acquisitions advisor to a large real estate private equity fund, practiced law at Reed Smith LLP, and was a law clerk for the Honorable Claude M. Hilton in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.

He earned his B.A. with Distinction from the University of Virginia and his J.D. from the William & Mary School of Law.  Mr. Athey and his wife are active supporters of children’s charities serving communities throughout the D.C. area.

Mr. Poole has owned S&A Homes, now one of the largest home builders in Pennsylvania, since 1980.  He also develops and invests in other areas of real estate including apartments, self-storage facilities and retail centers.  Mr. Poole is an experienced bank and public company director, having served on the boards Susquehanna Bank and its parent company, as well as those of Graystone Tower Bank and its holding company.

Actively involved in the Penn State community, Mr. Poole is Chair of the Schreyer Honors College Advisory Board and serves on the Board of Visitors for the university’s Smeal College of Business.  Penn State awarded him the Alumni Fellow Award in 2001 and the university’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 2006.
